Christmas In July is a clothing and toy giveaway that will take place at Hope Community Center on Saturday, July 17 from 8-1. (2009 +750 recipients) The event is open to the public but is specifically meant to benefit low income and refugee families.

Donations of gently used clothing, toys and any household items are being accepted at Hope from July 5-15 from 8am-8pm. A $10 donation will provide lunch for 1 family in need at Christmas In July. Please help us meet our goal of feeding 400 families that day. All donations are tax deductible. There will be food, music, moon bounce, face painting and maybe even santa!!! There is plenty of room for volunteers now through July 17 and businesses are welcome to sponsor the event. Hope is located at 341 11th St NW, Charlottesville.

This year we are going a few steps further. We are not only providing clothing, toys and food for those who participate in this program, we are teaching them to give back to the community who is giving to them. Each recipient of Christmas in July will be given the opportunity to volunteer with HOPE and our partners over 60 days. The program will be used to teach giving, from all sides. Not only will we give love, smiles, food and toys but we will give the gift of teaching, "It is better to give than receive." HOPE is expecting to provide more than +500 hours of volunteering for our community through Christmas in July.

Let us not just give but let us teach giving. Let us build, grow and develop a better community for all. "Give HOPE a Hand". How can you give back?

Volunteering Opportunities

Now-July16th

Volunteers are needed to hang 100's of fliers all over town. Places like the laundry mat, bus stop, public bathrooms, carry out/restaurants, hair/nail salon, coffee shops, library, doctor/dentist office, food bank, department stores, city pools, soup kitchens, daycare centers, EVERYWHERE! Stop by Hope for fliers.

Friday, July 9 from 5-8pm at the C-ville Pavilion

We will be handing out fliers about Christmas in July to everyone at Fridays After Five! Come out to help a great cause AND hear awesome music at the same time. What more could you ask for!

Monday-Saturday, July 5-10th and Monday-Friday, July 12-16th, 9am-8pm

We need LOTS of extra hands at Hope as thousands of donations flood our doors. Volunteers needed for setting up tables/shelves, sorting all donations, folding clothes, sorting clothes into sizes/gender, cleaning/organizing toys, organizing household items, and more!

Friday, July 16th, 2pm-8pm

Volunteers needed at Hope to help set up for the Christmas in July giveaway: hanging banners, hanging signs, setting up tables/chairs, putting up tents, getting everything ready to go for 1,000 or more people.

Saturday, July 17, 7:45am-2:30pm

We need about 150 volunteers to make Christmas in July a huge success. What could be more exciting than seeing a child's face light up after you help them find their favorite toy! Volunteers needed for clothing distribution, helping them find the size they need, helping kids find toys/books, prepare and hand out food/drinks, data entry in computer lab for registration, face painting, helping with puppets, crowd control, moon bounce safety, outside parking lot attendants. Lunch will be provided.
