Veteran's Day in Charlottesville

Veteran's Day was made an official legal holiday in 1938. Originally called "Armistice Day", it was created to honor those who served in World War I.  Today it is a day set aside to recognize all of our veterans and their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good.

What a teaching opportunity for our children!  The official Veteran's Day ceremony is held in Washington D.C., but Charlottesville will have its own ceremony today at 11 am on the lawn of the Albemarle County Office Building.  You can find more information on the history and purpose of Veteran's Day here.  And more information on the Charlottesville Veteran's Day Ceremony here.  Thank you so much to our veterans, for your sacrifice and service we are grateful.
