Meeting Recap - September 29, 2011

We had another wonderful meeting of the Cville MOPS!  Our morning started with a delicious breakfast provided by the Yellow Maple table.  Thank you ladies; it was great!  The Purple Popsicle table had invitations set out to all for a Progressive Dinner on Saturday, October 22nd at 6:00pm at the Dunlora Clubhouse; there will be more details about this in a future blog post.

Door prizes were handed out to some lucky mommies!  Congratulations to Amanda N. for winning the "On Time Save Time" prize!  Amber B. won a cute tote bag, Cara B. won a Seeds Family Worship CD, and a lucky mommy won a bag from Explorations Play Studio.

We all had a good laugh trying to match up the "interesting facts" we provided to the correct mom!  Patricia F. is a highly trained Polka Dancer, Sarah M. was once a News Producer for CBN, Ashley B. grew up in a one stoplight town, Jenn L. has injured loved ones with her sleep walking and talking ways, Karen L. broke the national AWANA marathon record in 1995, and Cassie H. loves perusing estate sales and antique shops for those one-of-a-kind items.  We sure have a wild and wonderful group of moms in our group!  But the big mystery is...which one of us has seen George W. Bush in his underwear?  Inquiring minds want to know ladies...we can't wait to find out in October!

Lauren Byrne, our fearless leader, made a few announcements:  During the month of October you are encouraged to bring kid's costumes for the Pass-it-on table.  Those who bring a costume to pass on get first dibs on the other costumes!

Trick-or-Treating at a local retirement home is being planned for sometime in October.  More details to come.

We were then blessed by the testimony of Cara B., who shared how God brought her through the difficult times of losing her precious mom to lung cancer, and receiving an unexpected diagnosis for her son.  Thank you so much Cara for sharing with us and inspiring us.

Our speaker today was George Conway, a local author and Presbyterian Minister.  George was also the headmaster of St. Anne's Belfield School for 24 years.  George shared some insights from his book, "Giving Good Gifts: The Spiritual Journey of Parenthood".  He asserted that there are seven spiritual gifts we should strive to give our children to help make them spiritually resilient during the trials of life.  He reminded us that not only are we to teach our children, but that they can teach us.  And he comforted us by offering that God is always ahead of our children so that they should not be afraid of going where He wants them to.  George says that he strives for a purely scriptural point of view when it comes to raising children, and that like the Bereans we should compare things to God's word before we believe them.  Thank you George for the insightful talk!

Our next meeting is October 13th and we be learning some of our fellow MOPS moms favorite holiday traditions.  We will also be making a yummy treat to take home.  See you then!
