In the spring of 2010, a Charlottesville High School teacher and mother, Jill Robertson was diagnosed with colon cancer. She immediately had surgery and started six months of chemotherapy. Jill excitedly returned to teaching in December 2010 after completing all of her chemo treatments. In March of 2011, Jill got the devastating news that the cancer had returned and had spread fully throughout her liver and had started to spread to her lungs. At one point, Jill was given two months to live. As of today, Jill’s cancer is incurable and resistant to all chemotherapy.
Jill has been forced to retire from teaching health and PE at Charlottesville High School to fight this aggressive cancer. In addition to teaching, Jill was also a swim coach for the high school and for Fry Springs Beach Club. Jill continues to make Charlottesville her home with her husband, Dan, and 4-year-old son, Luke.
Friends of Jill Robertson are holding a “Circle of Hope Grateful Friends Benefit Concert” at The Jefferson Theater on Thursday, October 6, 2011, in order to raise money for Jill and her family. The proceeds of the benefit will go into the Jill’s Fight for Life Fund. This fund is to help defer medical expenses from Jill’s continuing treatment and medical care. It will also be used for her son Luke’s education. Donations can be made through PayPal at this web address or checks can be made payable to Jill’s Circle of Hope and sent to Rachel Wilson, at 4082 Turkey Run, Charlottesville, VA 22911.
