Meeting Recap - January 9th, 2014

Happy New Year MOPS! Our first meeting of 2014 definitely helped us to get to know each other a bit better. But first, lets have some announcements!

  • FBC Park Street is having their women's Bible study on Tuesday mornings and Wednesday evenings. Childcare is available for both sessions. They will be studying True Woman 101: Divine Design, by Mary Kassian & Nancy Leigh DeMoss. Visit their website for more information.
  • Congrats to Amy M. on the birth of little Emmie! Watch for an email to take Amy and her family a meal.
  • If you paid your MOPS dues by the semester, the second payment is now due.
  • A reminder: If Albemarle County schools are delayed or cancelled due to inclement weather, MOPS will also be cancelled.
  • Happy January birthday to Sherry, Leah W., Ivonne, Amy V., and Allison P.!

We were honored to have Mentoring Mom Gayle Trevillian as our speaker. Gayle told us how God has been working in her life; bringing her through the trials of divorce and remarriage, adoption, and her daughter's journey to become a mom. Gayle wisely reminded us that God is always in control, and that while he doesn't promise "smooth sailing", we can rejoice in His love and peace. Thank you Gayle for sharing with us!

Our door prize winners were Jayne and Corie who won a goodie bag and book provided by Katie S. Katie loves Pride and Prejudice and included both the book and movie in her bag.

Our first game involved moving around your table according to things you did or did not do over the Christmas holiday. Things that made you move forward included having matching Christmas jammies, making a trip to the ER, and making Christmas dinner. The winners who made it all the way back to their own seat first were Laurie B., Jenn C., and Amber Y. Keep up the good work ladies!

Our last game was called four corners, and allowed us to get to know each other better. Depending on your interests, you went to one of four "corners" of the room and chatted about anything from Downton Abby, The Bachelor, sports, books, organizing, and children's discipline issues. It was really fun seeing who had similar interests, as well as picking each others brains about particular issues.

Our next meeting is on January 23rd. Hope to see you there!
